INVENTION OF NEW Genome Editing Tools

The field of genome editing has witnessed rapid advancements since the advent of CRISPR technology. Researchers have relentlessly expanded the CRISPR toolkit by exploring enzymes from diverse organisms, such as E. coli and Eukaryotic cells, and by integrating these systems with various enzymes. These novel tools have not only facilitated discoveries that were unattainable with traditional enzyme evolution but have also led to significant commercial outcomes, as demonstrated by the emergence of numerous companies on the Nasdaq, each bringing innovative editing technologies to the market.

At Toolgen, Dr. Lee’s team has pioneered the “base-randomizer” technique, an innovative approach that allows for the substitution of cytidine and adenine bases with any other base pair. This technique has proven instrumental in uncovering drug resistant mutations in critical genes, like EGFR.
GRIT-lab remains dedicated to the development of cutting-edge genome editing tools, which could be further enhanced through our robust directed evolution system.
